Helly Minarti is an independent curator and dramaturg based in Yogyakarta. Her practice investigates choreography as a mode of knowledge production, exploring relationships between body, consciousness, and nature through critical and historical lenses. Working across performance, writing, and pedagogy, she draws from diverse disciplines to reframe dance histories in Southeast Asia and beyond.
Helly holds a PhD in Dance Studies from the University of Roehampton, London, and has held fellowships with institutions including the Asia Cultural Council, Saison Foundation, and the Fulbright ASEAN Program. She has curated and collaborated on numerous international projects, and regularly teaches at universities and artistic platforms across Asia, Europe, and Australia. Her publications include writings on Gusmiati Suid, Claire Holt, and alternative modernities in Indonesian dance. She is currently developing a digital module on the choreographic legacy of Gusmiati Suid, and remains committed to nurturing cross-generational, translocal dialogues in performance and critical thinking.
