In collaboration with Samong Haven, Bali
Residency dates: 3 – 30 November 2025
Residency #32 — Rethinking Tourism Network: Cultural Heritage and Identity is PRAKSIS’s third collaboration with Samong Haven, Bali. Its research will focus on the invention and promotion of authentic, responsible cultural heritage practices, asking how these practices might benefit both locals and visitors in tourism-saturated environments such as that of Bali. The residency participants will exchange knowledge across cultural, disciplinary and geographic contexts, exploring how tourism can sustain rather than erode cultural and ecological integrity.
This month-long research and networking programme will include workshops, site visits, collaborative working, writing, video interviews and art making. The programme includes the international conference Rethinking Nationhood through Tourism, Heritage, and Ecology, (10–12 November, Denpasar, Indonesia), an exploration by artists, academics and community organisers of the ways that tourism, heritage and ecology contribute to the construction, contestation and reimagination of national identity in a changing world. The conference is co-organised with Warmadewa International Interdisciplinary Studies Programme (WIISP).
