by There Will Be Tomorrows

Join futures collective There Will Be Tomorrows for a solarpunk writing workshop.

Solarpunk is a shining vision of a positive future, grounded in our existing world, that emphasizes the need for environmental sustainability, self-governance, and social justice. It’s a movement dedicated to human-centric and eco-centric ends. It looks beyond the limitations of capitalism and beyond the current rift between humanity and nature. It’s a futurism that focuses on what we should hope for rather than on what to avoid.

— What is Solarpunk?, The Anarchist Library

In this workshop we will explore solarpunk themes in writing and work on our own texts through discussions and prompts. The workshop will be led by There Will Be Tomorrows member Amici Nybråten, who is currently putting together the first-ever solarpunk anthology in Norwegian. The workshop will be in English, but you are welcome to write in your preferred language.

Advance registration is required and spaces are limited. The workshop takes place in the Disen room at Deichman Bjørvika on Monday 26 October, 18:00–21:00.

About There Will Be Tomorrows

There Will Be Tomorrows (TWBT) is an interdisciplinary, collectively organised group centred on post-capitalist desire, liveable futures and social sufficiency.

At a time when contemporary crises are accumulating and accelerating, There Will Be Tomorrows aims to establish a site of active hope and resistance. TWBT bridges arts and activism by stimulating experiments in radical imagination and building a commons for post-capitalist skills and knowledge. As a community, we work together to model ideas and values that offer a basis for liveable futures: alternatives to oppressive capitalist systems.

Through practice-based, collective research and the reimagining of societal structures, TWBT aims eventually to develop a programme of collective, practical actions that address the specific needs of local people and local ecosystems.

Meetings last up to three hours and take place every other week. We often invite guests and are open to new members, so the group expands and contracts in size. Activities are organised collectively, with members proposing workshops, discussions, reading groups, screenings, creative experiments and more.

Topics the group engages with include:

// Collective care // Growing food // Collective ownership // Alternative economies // Climate and ecological justice // Community energy projects // Universal Basic Income // Decolonisation // Post-consumer art and leisure // Mental health under (post-)capitalism // Speculative fiction // Freedom from work // Post-fossil and post-capitalist imagining //
