Join us at PRAKSIS as artists in residence Sabīne Šnē (LT) and Anastasia (A) Alevtin (FI) introduce their practices through short presentations, followed by discussion.
Until 15 December, the artists are working alongside each other, exploring ideas relating to language, access, learning and institutional change.
Sabīne Šnē (she) is a Latvian visual artist and educator who explores relationships between humans and the more-than-human, focusing on how organisms and elements sustain life on Earth and how they are affected by resource exploitation and extraction. Her work spans moving image, sound, sculpture, creative writing and drawing. Curiosity about living beings and care for them continue to shape her creative process, alongside an urge to emphasise how deeply interconnected our lives are, and how ecology is inseparable from political, social and economic systems.
Her work has been exhibited internationally, including recent exhibitions at the Latvian Centre for Contemporary Art (Riga, 2026), Naughton Gallery (Belfast, 2026), Riga Photography Bienniale (Riga, 2026), GroundWork Gallery (King’s Lynn, 2025), HUB/Art (Barcelona, 2025), RIXC Gallery (Riga, 2025). Recent video work screenings include Images Festival (Toronto, 2026), Deep Focus (London, 2026), Animator Festival (Poznań, 2025).
Anastasia (A) Alevtin (they/them) is a Helsinki-based transdisciplinary artist and researcher who reads, scripts, records, screens, performs, programs, and publishes for more liveable—queercrip and migrant/migratised—ordinary worlds. Their work inquires into fleeting doings-in-common and stubborn practices of nonapparent subversion improvised against disabling and debilitating norms and is shaped by an ecological perspective. With a background in crip, queer, feminist theory and recently retraining in screenwriting, Alevtin conspires with brilliant bodily ambivalences and their queercrip sensorium to tell small stories of small (yet world-shifting!) affects. They work in sticky affinities with words and their fragments and are enchanted by how some bodies move some texts. They hold dear one-on-one performances, performance lectures, short and slow (what a paradox!) video works, independent publishing and collective learning.
Taking place during PRAKSIS’ 10th anniversary year, the residency builds on PRAKSIS’ experience of thematic group programmes, testing the potential of bringing two practitioners into dialogue over an extended period of time.
The residency connects with PRAKSIS Teen Advisory Board and the project Opening Doors, which develops youth-led methods for investigating and improving cultural access. The programme asks how young people experience cultural institutions, what barriers they encounter, and how their perspectives can inform real institutional change.
The residency is made possible by support from Nordic Culture Point.
