Artist Rajat Mondal presents his current project The Echoes of Resilience II, which explores the impact of climate change on local communities and ecosystems, and points towards the colonial legacies present in the human exploitation of natural resources.
Using burnt tree remains from forest fires and presenting the stories of those affected by them, Mondal traces the links between human activity and environmental degradation. His works can be thought of as archives of both destruction and resilience.
Mondal’s media include drawing, video and sound. His kinetic installations often make use of recycled electronics and technological processes. In all his works, carbon substances such as charcoal and graphite connect his artistic experimentation with critical environmental concerns.
The presentation will be followed by an open discussion.
e for emergence is a series of dialogues interrogating the intersections of technology, globalization, and environmental change. It is convened by a multiperspective group currently composed of artists Susanne M. Winterling, Rajat Mondal and climate scientist Kajsa Parding. It forms part of PRAKSIS Platform, a new initiative supporting artists and organisers to create dialogue and build community.
