The opportunity to physically gather is a sorely missed part of everyday life, however, since going online PRAKSIS Development Forum (PDF) has connected with artists all over the world. In this spirit, PDF Session 18 welcomes Marti Manen, director of Index - The Swedish Contemporary Art Foundation, to kick-start our first group work-in-progress sharing of 2021.

We look forward to hearing about Marti’s approach to exhibition making and what he has in store for 2021, as well as having him join the wider round table discussion. So, if you would like to share your work and/or ideas in progress and be part of an international creative dialogue, come and join us.

BOOK YOUR PLACE

There are 8 places for this session and booking is essential in order to coordinate the online group. The session will be conducted through the communication platform Zoom.

To reserve a spot please email: pdf@praksisoslo.org.`

PDF is free to join and held in English due to transnational setting.

HOW TO SHARE WORK

Each participant has around 15 minutes to share their current artistic activity. PDF’s focus is on works and ideas in progress, so please do not present finished works or projects. The session will be limited to sharing work via your electronic device. Ways of sharing practice could include:

  • Screen sharing, which enables others to see slide shows or content directly from your laptop.

  • A show and tell method, where physical objects, performances or tours can be presented via the inbuilt camera on your device.

  • Lead a discussion or voice ideas, with or without a visual presentation.

MORE ABOUT INDEX AND MARTI MANEN

Index has contributed to the artistic community of Stockholm and Northern Europe for over 40 years. Originally focusing on photography and publishing, today Index explores the wider parameters of visual arts. Placing an emphasis upon dialogue and creating points of interaction between the artworld and the public Index sees itself as a node in the wider ecology of the art world.

Marti Manen (Barcelona, 1976) is a curator and writer based in Stockholm. With a knowledge of Nordic and international art contexts, he has worked closely with artists to expand the formats of exhibition production. He has a deep-rooted interest in collaboration with artists to create communities that renegotiate space and histories. Manen has programmed exhibitions for large institutions, independent spaces and alternative artistic structures to investigate possible ways to redefine artistic grammar and public interaction. He has curated exhibitions at Museo de Historia Natural (Mexico City), Aara (Bangkok), Sala Rekalde (Bilbao), Konsthall C (Stockholm), Ca2M (Madrid), Miró Foundation (Barcelona) and was the curator of the Spanish pavilion at Venice Biennale 2015. Prior to his appointment at Index, he has worked as a curator at the Public Art Agency Sweden and Konstfack (Stockholm). Marti Manen has published books including Salir de la exposición (To leave the exhibition) published by Consonni, Contarlo todo sin saber cómo (Telling everything not knowing how) published by Ca2M and When Lines Are Time published by Miró Foundation.
