Phase Three: On-site residency at Samong Haven Bali

Residency: March 2023

Working together on site at Samong Haven Bali, local and international residents will adapt, finalise and realise concepts and designs developed during phase two of An Urgent Situation, the online residency. Working hands-on with sustainable and local materials, they will gain and/or refine the craft skills and construction knowledge that the plans and materials require. Site visits, workshops and meetings will embed this activity within Balinese culture and local knowledge. 

For those new to the area, participation will present an exceptional opportunity to learn about its cultural traditions, about tropical design and craft techniques, and the specific construction properties of local materials. As well as developing wide-ranging skills and knowledge, participants will benefit from immersion in a unique social experience, learning from one another and potentially building bonds that will long outlast the duration of the residency.
