Role Summary

PRAKSIS is seeking a Daglig Leder (Programme Manager) to take up a one-year position as parental cover, with the potential for further involvement with the organisation, dependent on circumstances. The Daglig Leder has the overall responsibility to coordinate PRAKSIS’s core organisational activities and to oversee its administration. Responsibilities include planning, fundraising, communicating, and facilitating all aspects of PRAKSIS’s programmes together with the Artistic Director. The Daglig Leder will contribute to the growth of the organisation, working to secure new programmes and infrastructure.

About PRAKSIS

PRAKSIS is a non-profit arts organisation that fosters creative practice, research and knowledge production through collective activity and the exchange of ideas, skills and information. PRAKSIS emphasises dialogue between artists, thinkers, organisations and publics locally and internationally, at all career stages, and across diverse cultures and disciplines. Since 2016 PRAKSIS has worked to develop creative practices and dialogues through shared experience, facilitating cross-cultural exchange and critical engagement through transnational, thematic residencies, exhibitions, publishing, and education and public engagement programmes.

PRAKSIS is a small and flexible organisation currently with two full-time employees, Artistic Director and Daglig Leder, who work closely with part time staff and a wide range of individual and institutional collaborators. As an international organisation our working language is English.

Job Purpose

  • Ensure the smooth daily operation of PRAKSIS across finances, communications and programming

  • Develop and facilitate PRAKSIS’s programmes together with the team

  • Contribute to the growth of the organisation, including the development of new programmes and seeking a new location

  • Build the reputation and impact of the organisation

Core responsibilities

Responsibilities include but may not be limited to:

  • Fundraising and developing revenue streams

  • Budgeting and bookkeeping

  • Reporting to funding bodies

  • Political lobbying

  • Work with Artistic Director to develop new programmes, membership, infrastructure, and possibilities

  • Facilitating programmes and events

Secondary responsibilities

  • Looking after part-time staff and project-based team members

  • Supporting participants and publics

  • Communications and PR

  • Fostering networks and being an ambassador towards the arts and culture field, financial contributors and external actors

Essential Requirements

  • Strong administrative skills

  • Strong experience in managing finances including budgeting, accounting, and reporting

  • Experience of hands-on project management, including coordination, arranging events and other practicalities

  • Knowledge of communications and PR

  • Willingness to facilitate programmes and events

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Excellent written and verbal English and Norwegian

  • Ability to coordinate and execute work both independently and as part of a small team

  • Enthusiasm and energy

Desirable Requirements

  • Understanding of contemporary art, its ecosystem and different publics

  • PRAKSIS develops creative research across disciplines. Experience from fields outside of the arts, such as research, design etc. is welcomed

  • Experience of fundraising

  • Experience of political lobbying

  • Competency with writing and editing

  • Previous work experience in a similar position

  • Enthusiasm and ability to work with diverse groups


Hours

The duties and responsibilities of PRAKSIS’s Daglig Leder are wide-ranging. You will be expected to work hours as are reasonably necessary in order to fulfil your duties and responsibilities. The nature of PRAKSIS’s programmes mean that activity is increased at certain times of the year – for example when residencies are in progress. Because of this, the balance of duties and intensity of work varies, as can the working hours. Any overtime may be taken as time in lieu.

Flexibility

PRAKSIS is a small, active organisation that aims to continue to grow. Currently operating with two core staff members working in close dialogue and sharing responsibility for the organisation. Flexibility in terms of thinking as well as approach to the role is required. The balance of duties may vary over time.
