Talks and conversation - When Lofoten Becomes a Destination, 22 September, 18:00–20:00
Nordnorsk Kunstnersenter, Svolvær*
Architecture, spatial planning and tourism
How do architecture and planning shape the conditions for tourism in Lofoten? And how do tourism and local values, in turn, influence the way places are built and planned?
Architect Don Lawrence looks at different planning processes and shares perspectives on how building and planning might be approached differently. The audience is also invited to share their own observations of how development projects and decisions about land use are changing places they know.
Place, identity and heritage in tourism
What happens to the culture and identity heritage of a place when it becomes a destination?
Drawing on interviews gathered across Lofoten, Hyungyu Park, Associate Professor in Tourism Studies at Middlesex University in the UK, explores this question together with architect Don Lawrence.
